HISTORICAL SOCIETY TO MEET ON TUESDAY NIGHT
The Grady County Historical Society will have their monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 12th at 7pm. After a brief business meeting, the program will be presented by Deborah Davis, recently retired director of the VSU Archives. The Archives Department at VSU has recently digitized the entire archived collection for the History Center. Everyone, members or not, are welcome to attend. For more information, call 377-5142.
DOVE AWARD WINNING ARTIST TO PERFORM AT PROVIDENCE BAPTIST CHURCH THIS MONTH
The Dove Award Winning artist, Brian Free & Assurance will be performing this Sunday, March 17th at 11a.m. at Providence Baptist Church in Whigham. The group travels all over the United States performing concerts and sharing the Good News of Christ and this is an opportunity to hear them in concert. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
BREAKFAST ON BROAD TO BE HELD MARCH 14th
The Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce will be holding their next “Breakfast on Broad” on March 14th from 7:30-8:30am. Come enjoy a delicious breakfast and networking opportunities with other business leaders at The Foundry on South Broad Street. This month’s event is sponsored by Veterans Enforcers Motorcycle Association.
WHIGHAM FFA TO HAVE SPRING PLANT SALE THIS MONTH
The Whigham School FFA Spring Plant Sale will be held on Saturday, March 23rd from 8am-12pm. At variety of plants, both vegetable and flowers, will be available for sale.
STORYTIME AT LIBRARY
The Roddenbery Memorial Library reminds all parents and caregivers that the regular storytime is every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the children’s flex space. This activity is perfect for children aged 2 to 8 years old.
BIRDSONG NATURE CENTER TO HAVE PLANT SALE ON MARCH 23rd
The Birdsong Center invites everyone to their annual Spring Plant Sale on Saturday, March 23rd from 9am – 1pm. There will be a variety of plants including many native varieties that are typically not available in other locations on sale during this day. VEMA TO HOST GOLF TOURNAMENT ON APRIL 6th
The Veteran Enforcers Motorcycle Association (VEMA) will be hosting a golf tournament at the Tired Creek Golf Course on April 6th to honor one of our local heroes, Wandell Asbell, a member of the Cairo Police Department. The four-man scramble tournament will begin with a 1:30pm tee time and cash prices for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams. For more information, email mharrisonfire@gmail.com
UGA EXTENSION SERVICE TO OFFER SERVSAFE CERTIFICATION THIS MONTH
The University of Georgia Extension Service will be offering the ServSafe Manager Certification course at the Grady County Extension Office on March 21-22nd from 8:30am – 4:30pm both days. The cost of the certification class is $150 which includes the instruction hours, course book, study materials, certification exam and drinks and snacks during the training. PATRICKS DAY EVENT COMING TO DOWNTOWN CAIRO
The Carousel Sports Bar and Cairo Main Street will be presenting ‘St. Patrick’s Day on Main’ on March 16th. There will be several performers during the evening including the Steve Walden Band. Everyone is invited to attend.
POLLING PLACE BEING RELOCATED
Denise Maddox, Superintendent of Elections for Grady County has announced that there will be a change in the polling location for voters who previously voted at the Pine Park Volunteer Fire Department. The new polling location wll be the fellowship hall at Pine Park Baptist Church. New precinct cards will be mailed to the voters affected.
GENEALOGY HELP AVAILABLE AT LIBRARY
If you’re interested in genealogy, the Roddenbery Memorial Library has a fantastic volunteer, Sara Jane Cannon, available every Monday and Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Genealogy Room. She can help you with your research and answer any questions.
NEW ART & EXERCISE CLASS AT LIBRARY
The Roddenbery Memorial Library has introduced a new Art & Exercise Class for seniors every Monday from 9am-noon with the exercise classes only on Thursday from 9-10am. Both classes take place in the Grady Room of the library.
LAKE AUTHORITY CHANGES PERMITTING
The Grady County Board of Commissions and the Grady County Lake Authority have announced that 2024 Tired Creek Lake permits for both residents and nonresidents are now being issued by the Code Enforcement Department on the 3rd floor of the courthouse.
LIBRARY OFFERS MANGA MONDAY TO TEENS
The Roddenbery Memorial Library reminds teens and tweens that they now offer Manga Mondays at 3:30pm. The event is held in the teen room and snacks are served. All teens ages 12-18 are invited to participate.
